Late Nite Improv
CSz Richmond Theater Presents
CSz Late Nite is the edgier, uncensored side of CSz Richmond, featuring bold, innovative improv comedy that pushes boundaries and embraces grown-up themes. Designed for adult audiences, these late nite shows showcase experimental formats, genre-based storytelling, musical improv, and unscripted chaos that break away from the family-friendly rules of traditional ComedySportz. With rotating cast members, special guests, and unpredictable audience interaction, CSz Late Nite is where Richmond’s funniest improvisers let loose, take risks, and create wild, one-of-a-kind performances you won’t see anywhere else.
Bring your voice. Bring your style. Build something with us. Audition for the CSZ Late Nite House Team!
CSz Late Nite is holding auditions for our House Team—a cast of fearless improvisers who thrive on bold choices, off-the-cuff chaos, and grown-up comedy. This team performs regularly as part of our late nite programming, exploring long form improv, genre-driven improv, narrative formats, musical madness, and any other improv production worth exploring. We’re looking for performers who are collaborative, confident, and ready to experiment in front of a live audience. If you're ready to bring the funny after hours, this is your shot.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE AUDITIONS:
-
CSz Richmond Theater, 8906 W Broad St.
-
Registration is required for attendance.
WHAT IS THE LATE NITE HOUSE TEAM LOOKING FOR:
-
This is an adult-oriented improv team. The content is uncensored and explores themes not appropriate for family-friendly ComedySportz shows.
-
You’ll be expected to take bold risks. We’re looking for improvisers who make strong choices, commit fully, and embrace the weird.
-
Collaboration is key. Even in experimental formats, we value strong ensemble work, active listening, and generous play.
-
This team is performance-based. Members are expected to commit to regular rehearsals and monthly shows.
-
You may perform in a variety of formats. These can include genre-based longform, musical improv, character-driven narratives, parody shows, and short-form hybrids.
-
Experience helps, but isn’t required. While prior improv training or performance is a plus, we’re open to bold new voices who bring something unique to the table.
-
We’re building a team, not casting roles. Be yourself. We want to see you—your style, your strengths, your perspective.
-
CSz Late Nite is part of the CSz Richmond community. While the content differs, our values of respect, inclusion, and support still apply.
-
Have fun. Be weird. Take up space. This is your time to show off the kind of comedy you wish you saw onstage
IS THERE A COST?
-
Auditioning is free! But the house team does have a $100 quarterly due. This due helps support the program a few ways:
-
Dues help ensure the success and sustainability of the CSz Late Nite House Team program.
-
Funds go toward paying our coaching staff, so you receive consistent, high-quality direction and feedback.
-
A portion helps pre-pay bar staff and operational costs, making sure our shows are staffed and ready to go.
-
Dues also support marketing and promotion, helping attract audiences and boost visibility for your performances.
-
Your contribution helps create a professional, well-supported performance environment—so the focus stays on the funny.
-
HOW DO I PREPARE?
-
Dress comfortably. You’ll be moving around, so wear something you can improvise in.
-
Be ready to play. You might be asked to jump into musical improv, physicality, or grounded character work.
-
Come with energy and openness. We’re looking for people who can embrace weird, work well with others, and adapt quickly.
-
Don’t aim to be the funniest—aim to be the most supportive. Comedy comes from collaboration and trust.
-
Most importantly: have fun. This is about finding joy and connection onstage—let your passion show.
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT THE TRY OUTS?
-
Collaborative, not competitive. We’re building an ensemble, not a spotlight contest—everyone shines when we support each other.
-
Inclusive and welcoming. We hold space for voices of all backgrounds, styles, and identities. We want bold, weird, and different.
-
Open to the wider community. While the House Team performs regularly, we also create opportunities for non-House Team members to guest in shows, jam nights, or special formats.
-
A launchpad for leadership. House Team members have the chance to step into producer roles, pitch show ideas, and help shape the future of CSz Late Nite.
-
Supportive of growth. We value feedback, curiosity, and experimentation. Trying something new (and failing gloriously) is part of the process.
-
Its about building community. We’re building something bigger than any one performer—it’s about the collective joy, weirdness, and brilliance we create together.
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
-
Weekly practices are held Mondays at 7pm and led by rotating members of our experienced coaching team.
-
Practices include a mix of general improv skill-building and focused rehearsal or workshop time for upcoming shows.
-
There is no expectation to attend every practice—we understand life happens. Just stay communicative and engaged.
-
If you're cast in a new production, expect some additional rehearsal or workshop time as needed to bring the format to life.
-
If you're producing a show, you'll help with concept development, casting, scheduling, and coordinating logistics with support from our team.
-
House Team members are encouraged to take ownership—pitch show ideas, support other productions, and help build the community.
-
We aim to strike a balance between structure and flexibility, ensuring you can grow as an artist without burning out.
-
Communication and reliability are key—let us know what you can commit to and follow through.
